Life is full of coincidences.
Just the other day I was having a chat with a hobby photographer colleague about flickr.com and how some photos have a tendency to show up on other, completely unrelated sites and blogs (guilt mode: off) when there, out of the blue, tonight I get an email to say that one of my “photos with a Creative Commons license has been selected for inclusion in the newly released fourth edition of our Schmap Salzburg Guide”.
Errhmm, OK? It ain’t exactly a brilliant picture… but what the heck!
Nor does it end there: Some of my photos have shown up all over the show and in the most unexpected of places, such as an announcement about Amsterdam’s brothels, an article on South Africa’s crime expo, another blog on internet radio piracy, a Wired article on advertising fraud and hijinks, some photo indexing / geotagging service, a Polish political article, and (with express permission) the International Database and Gallery of Structures as well as Wikipedia Commons.
Data, information, and knowledge have a way of wanting to be shared. Or stolen.
