Rewind: 2013
What a strange year it’s been. Much happened. Nelson Mandela passed away in December at the age of 95. David Cameron and Barack Obama used the opportunity to pose for a selfie with the Danish Prime Minister. The revelations elevated Mr. Snowden to the status of a hero in the eyes of most… Continue reading

Rewind: 2012
If you’re reading this, you might have noticed that the world didn’t end on 21-12-2012 as supposedly forecast by the Mayans. Our little blue marble continues to spin and orbit around the sun. All the hype was for nothing, as was the fearmongering about the possible black hole caused by firing up the Large Hadron Collider. Continue reading

My Ravaged Ears: The Sequel
For me, personally, digging through and cataloguing second-hand recordings is an immensely gratifying task, and there must be scores of such treasures that, during their glory days, were proudly displayed in tape cabinets or fancy shelves. Today, these remnants are hidden away in the back of a drawer, stuck in a box under the bed or simply gather dust in the basement. Continue reading
Rewind: 2011
As the end of 2011 approaches, now would be a good time to reflect on the year that was. If you’re reading this you may have noticed that the world didn’t end in 2011 (unless you’re Harold Camping) — it’ll only end next year (if you’re a Mayan). Continue reading
Madge and the squatter
Fans and followers of the real Ms. Ciccone had to be content with the less attractive madonnaweb.com domain, and this is what the main page looked like in 1999. Continue reading
History through humour
Sure, in the grand scheme of things they’re just a bunch of jokes. Once you delve deeper into the annals of these shitty old jokes you will discover that many of them ain’t funny no more. This was the time before smartphones, iPods and near-universal broadband internet access, and before everyone and their cat was on Facebook and/or Twitter. As a result, there’s some historical relevance in them thar jokes. Continue reading

Current status
Months of this insanity involving late hours trying to piece together the origins of an existing label or the forensics to determine the time and cause of demise of a label that’s disappeared off the radar can drive a person nuts. Conversely, it’s the controversial Google Book Search that’s turned out to be an invaluable tool for hunting down facts on companies that existed during the dark days of apartheid, BC. Continue reading
The end of the decade is nigh
While we’re rounding up what’s left of the current decade, allow us to reveal some statistics of nonsense within the vast hmvh network of shenaniganisms. It’s turned out that the most popular blog posting by far is the the pseudo-humouresque, quasi-investigative, and semi-critical-of-life-online essay called “The story of Moshzilla”. Continue reading
